McFish and the Lost Recipe of Atlantis

QSRMiniatureCGI

Overview

The McFish came back to McDonald’s Brazil on 8 September, and the campaign turned the return into an archaeological expedition. Fish Lovers go down through the ocean looking for the sandwich and find Atlantís: an ancient civilisation, its murals, and an ancestral version of Méqui 1000.

None of it is underwater. The city was built by hand as maquettes, buildings, ruins and miniatures, then photographed outdoors in daylight and taken to the sea floor in post. Directed by Os Olga and Gabriel Nóbrega for McDonald’s and Galeria, with photography by Felipe Lion and Lucas René.

How it was built

Atlantis, on a table.

Maquettes, buildings, ruins and miniatures, all built by hand. Columns, friezes and a domed rotunda were sculpted and dressed, then shot outdoors in flat daylight against a working street, which is the last place the finished film looks like it was made. The depth, the blue and the drifting particulate are post. The texture is not: every pitted surface and salt-crusted edge was there in front of the lens.
